Lucy Clark Scottish Country Dance Club (“Lucy Clark”)
Statement of safeguarding policy
Lucy Clark has a duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children and vulnerable adults – protecting them and keeping them safe from harm while they are involved in the Club’s activities. We are committed to safeguarding practice that reflects statutory responsibilities, government guidance, and best practice requirements.
These principles apply to everyone working for the Club whether in a paid or a voluntary capacity; and all Members are expected to adopt the same approach. We are committed to promoting a safe environment, assuring participants and parents of appropriate care and protection.
Our policy is based on the premise that no one involved in the Club's activities should experience abuse or neglect, and that everyone has a responsibility to promote welfare and safety, and to report concerns. All suspicions and allegations will be taken seriously and responded-to appropriately by a nominated Committee Member, recognising that safety is a priority for all individuals regardless of their background.
Specifically, it is expected that:
-
any Member working with or having unsupervised access to children or vulnerable adults should hold the appropriate level of criminal record check (eg Enhanced DBS Certificate);
-
any such Member will have access to training, advice and support to help them to understand and fulfil their role where this involves vulnerable people;
-
Club activities will take place in a safe and secure environment, which has been risk assessed as appropriate to the participating group and activity; and
-
appropriate action will be taken in response to any concerns about abuse/allegations of abuse.
For the purpose of this Policy Statement:
-
a child is a person under the age of 18, and
-
a person may be considered a vulnerable adult if they are 18 years or over and have either a learning or physical disability, a physical or mental illness or drug/alcohol addiction, or a reduction in physical or mental capacity which leads to reduced ability to protect themselves from assault, abuse or neglect.
